Volunteers sought for Selbyville’s Haunted Library

Spooktacular enthusiasts can help give a scare this month at the Selbyville Public Library’s scariest tradition, the Haunted Library. Volunteers are currently being sought for some very trick-or-treaty community service: to set up, clean up or participate in the Oct. 31 event.

There are three volunteer opportunities: Decorating Committee, from 10 a.m. to noon; Event Committee from 5:30 to 8 p.m.; and Clean-up from 8:15 to 9 p.m.

Whether people are behind the masks or running from them, Selbyville’s Haunted Library aims to entertain.

Selbyville continues the annual haunted house “just to give the kids something to do. There’s not too much to do in Selbyville,” said library assistant Roshell Purnell, estimating an average of 100 walk-throughs at the Haunted Library each year.

Whether creating Frankenstein’s monster or resurrecting the ghostly inhabitants of the Townsend House, volunteers “make it all come together,” Purnell said.

All volunteers must be at least 15 years old. They will receive certificates in recognition of their volunteer hours. The library will close on Halloween for set-up. The Haunted Library runs from 6 to 8 p.m. that night.

Register to help by calling Selbyville Public Library on Main Street by Monday, Oct. 28, at (302) 436-8195.
